Everything that you do to promote your learning in this classroom is for a grade. This class is designed
to help you make the transition from high school to college and/or a career. For this reason, an emphasis is placed
on projects to be completed in and out of class, and on your participation in class. At the end of this school year
you will be ready to be successful in college and your future.
English IV Curriculum Overview:
1ST SEMESTER
1st Six Weeks (August 26 - October 3) College & Career Readiness
2nd Six Weeks (October 6 - November 7) Drama
3rd Six Weeks (November 10 – December 18) Informational/Expository Research Skills
2ND SEMESTER
4th Six Weeks (January 6 - February 13) Persuasion
5th Six Weeks (February 17 - April 10) Fiction
6th Six Weeks (April 13 - June 4) Multigenre Study: Literature Analysis
Classroom Norms: *Students are required to follow the student code of conduct.

I have one personal request: Please do not wear perfumes, colognes or sxented lotions. Many of us (me) have terrible
allergies which may cause our throats to close and our heads to explode. Thank you!!!!
Materials:
● 1 Small Three Ring Binder with Dividers
● College-ruled loose leaf
● 1 Package of Dividers
● 1 Composition Notebook
Novels, Books, or Textbooks that are issued to the student become the student’s responsibility.
Grading Policy: Each 6 week period will be calculated by:
· Summative or Major Grades 40%
· Formative or Daily Grades 40%
· Quizzes or Process Grades 20%
· Midterm & Final 16% of Semester Grade (Three 6 week periods in each semester)
*Students who receive a 75% average or below during a reporting period must attend tutorials.*
Late Work/Make-Up Work Policy/Redo’s and Re-takes
· To receive full credit, all work must be turned in on time.
· Presentations will be graded on the day they are assigned.
· Each day that an assignment is late (without an excused absence), 10 points will be taken off the total grade. (20 points per class)
· After five days, late work, quizzes & tests will be accepted but will not receive over a 50%.
Make-Up:
· If you miss a day of class, you have 1 CLASS PERIOD to turn in missed assignments!
· After that day, the LATE WORK POLICY will apply!
Redo’s/Re-takes: Student has 1 school week from the date that the grade is posted.
· Teacher may require student to attend tutorials in order to re-take, re-take must be taken during tutorial time.
· Student must initiate the redo/retake
· Re-take will be taken up to a 70%. if taken within 5 days of the due date, after 5 days they will be taken up to 50%
